I Sodi di S. Niccolò is the Grand Cru of Castellare di Castellina and one of the first historic Supertuscans produced exclusively from native grape varieties: 85% Sangioveto and 15% Malvasia Nera. Its name comes from the word used by Tuscan farmers to describe soils that had to be worked by hand, as they were too hard “sodi” or too steep to allow the use of oxen. San Niccolò is the name of the 14th-century church located on the Castellare estate, surrounded by its most prized vineyards.
The 2022 vintage celebrates 45 harvests with an elegant black label featuring Castellare’s iconic bird, a symbol of the estate’s daily commitment to sustainable viticulture, pursued for over 40 years.
Tasting notes: intense red with hints of garnet. Deeply sophisticated and showcasing its full pedigree in terms of both the bouquet and palate of the wine. The fruit quality is exceptional and each individual aroma can be distinguished with total clarity, from the cherry to the spices, whose focus and integration are exceptional.
Pairings: pairs well with cold cuts and meat rich in flavour, cheeses with a strong and aromatic taste, in particular, Pecorino Toscano and Parmigiano.
